LOOKING FOR

ABOUT ME

With nearly a decade of technical/product design experience, I’ve earned deep knowledge in broad aspects of design as well as engineering. By blending patience, dedication, creativity, and fabrication skills, I innovate by balancing the act of tinkering and design engineering to pioneer and produce imaginative final products. I’m eager to add value by offering a strong combination of my hands-on technical capabilities, visual-spatial intelligence, and architectural and industrial design expertise in an imaginative enriching position.

In addition to this, my technical competencies include freehand sketching & mechanical drafting; woodworking & carpentry; mechanical, electrical & plumbing assembly/mock ups; furniture design & fabrication; basic stamp & Arduino stamp language; metal fabrication; and basic electrical soldering & tinkering.

I’m also highly proficient with industry related software, including Auto-Cad, PhotoShop, SolidWorks, Catia, Illustrator, SketchUp, MS Office, and Rhino.

Throughout my career I’ve become regarded as difference-maker who confronts the status quo and embraces new endeavors. When I’m not tackling new challenges at work, you might find me traveling and camping in primitive locations around California.

My style is sometimes characterized as meticulous yet daring, as I’m not afraid to take calculated risks. In the words of Walt Disney, “Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it they will want to come back and see you do it again and they will want to bring others and show them how well you do what you do.”

In summary, I’m known for my ability to organize people and processes along with detail-orientation and commitment. As well, I’m a resourceful and diligent utility player who is ready to hit the ground running, designing products or architectural project that have mass appeal to targeted audiences.

WORK & INTERNSHIP HISTORY

Technical Designer
Fluidity Design Consultants | January 2011 - January 2013

Most recently, I was hired by this architectural water feature (fountain) design firm for my craftsmanship, fabrication, and technical expertise. I served as the lead designer, driving 3 assigned projects through concept, schematics, design, development, and construction documentation phases. In addition to this, I was appointed to initiate and run the R&D department to confirm design intent and resolve problems prior to construction.

Key accomplishments included innovating a new water stream expression deemed impossible within tight budget constraints and to client’s vision.

Product Designer
WET Design | January 2007 - January 2010

I was brought in to this innovative water feature design firm to lead a 5-member team in the development of version 2.0 of the company’s only consumer-targeted product, WaterCandles. In this role, I was directly involved in the process of water features’ design from concept to construction documents. Additionally, I was appointed R&D leader to drive exploration and conceptualization of ice, wind, sand, and fire for consumer products line.

Notable achievements included recognition as the first team leader/designer to successfully deliver WaterCandles v2.0 for production (attempted by 4 previous designers).

Designer/Fabricator & Assistant to Principal
Foxlin Inc. | January 2004 - January 2008

As a result of exceptional performance in Sci_Arc class project, I was recruited by this architectural design firm’s owner.

Successes included automating a wall comprised of 25 doors, suspended from overhead track. This created an automated envelope that brought the outdoors into indoor living area, in client’s residence located in La Jolla, California.

Design Architect
Marmol-Radziner PreFab | January 2006 - January 2007

In 2006, I joined this newly launched sister company to Marmol Radziner & Associates (architectural design firm), specializing in high-quality custom–designed, modular prefabricated homes. Initially, I created an efficient/lean chassis fabrication and assembly process. Then, I joined forces with inter-firm teams to integrate and adjust a lean assembly line process.

Highlights included steering this startup company in utmost efficient and practical direction to gain the market advantage.

Intern
Kaplan Chen Kaplan Architects | January 1999 - January 2001

I was hired by my college professor to provide a full range of architectural and planning services. During this time, I quickly learned the ropes by assisting with a wide array of office, construction, and job site tasks.
